| What is auto liability insurance? Liability protection can prevent the insured from experiencing financial debt because of an accident. In most states, liability insurance is required and West Virginia has a state minimum amount of coverage that need to be carried.
Without liability insurance, a driver would be held accountable for all injuries and damages he/she caused in an accident. Without insurance protection, the driver would have to pay for damages and costs "out of pocket".
Bodily injury liability provides coverage in situations where a driver was responsible for causing injury to or death of another person during or because of a covered auto accident. It will pay for medical expenses and other associated costs such as lost income.
Property Damage coverage will provide reimbursement to another party in the event that an insured's vehicle caused damage to her/his property. Damage to objects such as another vehicle, fences, houses, etc.
There are two types of liability insurance: combined single limit and split limits. With a combined single limit, the property damage and bodily injury are combined together, and there is a maximum limit to cover both situations. With split limits, the property damgage and bodily injury coverage are separated.

| What is the difference between Comprehensive and Collision coverage? This coverage is referred to as Physical Damage Coverage and provides coverage for accidental direct damage to a covered auto and non-owned autos.
Collision pays for repairs to your car in the event of an accident - no matter who caused it. Comprehensive coverage pays for damage suffered through other events such as a rock hitting the windshield or contact with a bird or animal. Also known as "Other Than Collision", it provides coverage for the vehicle from losses such as windstorm, hail, water, theft, falling objects, etc.
"Comp and Collision" are a good idea if you have a newer car or a vehicle with a high value. Most lienholders require drivers to carry this coverage. For older vehicles or vehicles without liens, check NADA guide values to determine if the coverage is a good investment for you. There are exclusions such as wear and tear and road damage to tires and electronic equipment not "permanently installed" so you want to check with your agent about the exclusions if you have a particular concern.

| What is an Umbrella policy? A Personal Umbrella Liability policy expands the coverage and limits of your present auto, homeowners, and other primary policies that you have. Also known as Excess Liability Insurance, coverage limits higher than what is provided by primary insurance policies for mishaps, accidents, and occurrences that occur anywhere in the world. It includes liability, property damage liability, defense coverage, and supplementary payments that can be involved in conducting your legal defense. For example, an allotted amount of money per day for loss of wages or salary if required to attend hearings or a trial.
An Umbrella can give you $1,000,000 in coverage for each occurrence and even higher limits are available. Loss assessment coverage can also be purchased if desired.
Don't take a chance with your financial future. You'll be surprised how affordable an Umbrella policy can be.
